Musta, valkoinen ja hopea, yhdistettynä verenpunaiseen – lyömätön yhdistelmä, joka toimii takuulla tämän lomakauden klassisessa juhlameikissä. Tein tämän meikin jouluna, juurikin inspiroituneena joulun punaisesta ja juhlakauden kimalteesta. Ja siis tietenkin pukista. Silmiin tein puolikkaan “cut creasen” ja huulet punasin täydellisen punaisella huulipunalla. Puolikas cut crease on älyttömän helppo tehdä: Tarvitset vain peitevoiteen, lättäsiveltimen ja haluamasi luomivärin.

Jos haluat toteuttaa tämän meikin, tarvitset silmämeikkiä varten mattaisen vaalean harmaan, tummemman harmaan sävyjä (matta tai hohto), mattamustan, hohtavan hopeaa tai samppanjaa, hohtovaa valkoista, mustan eyelinerin ja näyttävät irtoripset. Black, white and silver with a deep red – a color combination that most likely rocks during this holiday season. I did this makeup look on Christmas, as I was totally inspired by the festive red and shimmer – and Santa. I made a half cut crease to the eye lids and used creamy red in the lips. If you wish to mimic this look, you only need matte light grey, matte or shimmer dark grey, matte black, shimmer silver or champagne, shimmer white, black eyeliner and pair of drama lashes. For lips, a classic red lipliner and traditional red lipsctick are must.

Aloitin meikin jälleen kulmista, jonka jälkeen pohjustin luomet pohjustusvoiteella ja ihonsävyisellä luomivärillä. Lisäsin luomivakoon ja kohti kulmakarvoja isolla pyöreäpäisellä siveltimellä mattaista vaalean harmaata (1) ja pienemmällä siveltimellä tumman harmaata pelkästään luomivakoon (2). Tämän peiteainekerroksen päälle levitin hohtavaa hopeaa, samppanjaa ja valkoista (5), jonka jälkeen lisäsin nestemäisen eyelinerin (6). Ripsivärin ja aikas dramaattisten tekoripsien jälkeen tein pohjameikin ja punasin huulet.

First I did my brows, as usual, after which I primed my lids and brushed some nude shade shadow all over the lids. I added matte light grey to the crease and above with a huge blending brush (1) and darker grey shade with a smaller blending brush, focusing mainly only to the crease (2). Then I added matte black to the outer edge of the lid with a dense detail brush and blended the color to the crease with a blending brush (3). I cut the inner and middle part of the lid with a concealer and flat brush, creating a sharp cut to the crease (4). On top of that, I added some shimmering silver, champagne and white (5), before drawing a liner (6). After adding some mascara and dramatic false lashes, I made up the complexion and the lips.

Half cut crease is an extremely easy way to do a bit different, yet snazzy eye makeup for any kind of an event. It gives also freedom to play with different colors, and I promise to post whole or half cut crease makeup tutorials in the future just to show you that it’s not that difficult.

I own two Kat von D’s liquid lipsticks – Beloved (soft coral) and Bauhau5 (deep raspberry) – which are extremely pigmented and longwearing. You can easily apply them on the morning to realize in the evening that they are still there. I might need to buy them all!

B) Essence Matt matt matt Longlasting lipgloss

Meikki – Grinch-tyttö / The Makeup – Grinch Girl

Pikkujouluaika on kuumimmillaan, ja sen näkee varsinkin ihmisten pukeutumisessa ja tyylissä. Ravintolat täyttyvät erityisen laittautuneista ihmisistä, jotka ovat panostaneet pikkujouluiseen habitukseensa asusteiden, meikin ja vaatteiden voimin. Kauden meikkitrendeinä on nähtävissä perinteisen kullan ja hopean lisäksi erivärisiä glittersilmämeikkejä ja rohkeita huulipunan sävyjä, joista suosituimmat ovat violettiin ja pinkkiin taittuvat sävyt.

Tässä meikkiesimerkissä olen ottanut vaikutteita joulun yhdestä perinteisemmästä väristä, vihreästä. Tumman mattaista ja kimaltelevaa vihreää käytin sekä silmämeikissä, että pukeutumisessa. Jos käytössäsi ei ole Morphe x Jaclyn Hill-palettia, kannattaa etsiä ainakin seuraavat sävyt tämänkaltaiseen silmämeikkiin: matta ruskean beige, matta tumman vihreä, mattamusta, kimalteleva vihreä, kimaltevela hopea/samppanja, ja kulmaluun ja silmän sisänurkan korostukseen mieluinen korostuspuuteri. Esimerkiksi NYX:iltä ja H&M:n valikoimassa löytyy tämänkaltaisia värejä, ja vieläpä edulliseen hintaan.

Christmas party time is booming, which can be seen in the way people are making an effort to their appearance. Especially glitter and bold lips are trending, and gold and silver are no longer the main colors during this season. In this makeup look, I wanted to play around with one of the most characteristic color of the Christmas, green. The green color was ruling my eyes and clothing. The eye makeup was conducted basically using Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette, but corresponding shades and colors can be easily found from the huge and affordable collection of NYX and H&M. All you need is matte brown beige, matte dark green, shimmering or glittering dark green, glittering silver or champagne and a basic highlighter.

Meikin kulku:

Pohjustin luomet Urban decayn silmien pohjustustuotteella, jonka jälkeen puuteroin luomet kevyesti irtopuuterilla, ja vaalean mattaisella pinkihtävän beigellä sävyllä. Aloitin lisäämällä ensin Morphe x Jaclyn Hill-paletin Silk creamia (matta ruskean beige) koko luomivakoalueelle (1), jonka jälkeen tummensin luomivakoa Enchanted-sävyllä (matta tumman vihreä), aloittaen värin lisäämisen luomen ulkonurkasta (2). Värit sudin Zoevan häivytyssiveltimella 227 reilulla kädellä, lisäten väriä. häivyttäen ja jatkaen kunnes, olin tyytyväinen. I primed my lids with Urban Decay Primer Potion, powdered them with loose setting powder and pale matte pink beige. I began working the crease area by adding Silk cream (matte brown beige) from Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette (1), and then with Enchanted (matte dark green) (2). I spread the dark green shade with Zoeva 227 blending brush starting from the outer edge of the lid, proceeding to the crease. I darkened the outer edge of the lid with Abyss (matte black), and then I spread Diva (shimmering dark green) in the middle and the inner corner of the lid with wet brush (I used MAC Fix+) (3). In the middle of the lid, I added Obsessed (shimmering champagne) (4), and highlighted the inner corner of the lid and brow bone with Enlight (light highlighter). In the end, I added some liquid eyeliner, colored the waterline with black pencil, brushed mascara, and added false lashes (5, 6). Lower lid followed the same color scheme as upper lid including Enchanted, Diva and Abyss.

Pohjameikin tein tällä kertaa hiukan eri tavalla: sekoitin kolmea eri meikkivoidetta ja mielestäni saavutin parhaimman mahdollisen tuloksen! Ihoni näyttää ihanan blurratulta ja kerrankin oikean sävyiseltä. Lisäksi pohjameikkini kesti muuttumattona 8 tuntia, ennen kuin pesin turvan puhtaaksi. Kolmen meikkivoiteen setti koostui kolmesta tämänhetkisen top 3:sta: Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup (Ecru), Lumene Natural Glow Fluid Foundation (sävy 1) ja Too Faced Born This Way Foundation (Snow). Kaksi peittävää ja pitkäkestoista, ja yksi kuultoa antava.

Peiteainetta lisäsin ainoastaan silmien alle, ja puuteroin kasvot kevyesti. Silmien alle lisäsin puuteria hiukan enemmän meikkisienellä ja annoin puuterin vaikuttaa muutaman minuutin ennen kuin pyyhin ylimääräiset puuterit pois siveltimellä. The base makeup was a little different this time: I mixed three foundations and I reckon that this was the best cocktail I’ve ever made! My skin looked so blurred and velvety, and the shade was perfect. The base also lasted for 8 hours unchanged, before I washed the makeup off. The triple foundation cocktail consisted of Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup (Ecru), Lumene Natural Glow Fluid Foundation (shade 1) and Too Faced Born This Way Foundation (Snow). Two giving me full coverage and one glow.

The base makeup included also concealer under the eyes, light powder, under eye baking, bronzing and contouring the cheeks, forehead and nose, and blush and highlighter. I melted the powdery makeup together with a setting spray.

Hiukset muotoilin ensin lisäämällä muotovaahtoa (Fudge Hot Hed Style Whip) pyyhekuivien hiusten juureen ja föönaamalla ne kuiviksi. Sumutin kuivien hiusten latvaan lämpösuojaa (Idhair Mé Heat defender) ja kiharsin suortuvat suoristusraudalla (GHD) pienissä erissä. Harjasin jäähtyneet kiharat auki pää alaspäin ja lisäsin runsaasti tekstuurilakkaa (Fudge Think Big Texture Spray), varsinkin latvoihin. Voin kertoa, että kiharat olivat vielä seuraavanakin päivänä!

Sujautin tekonahkahousut jalkaan ja ihanan tumman vihreän glitterpaidan, jossa on pitkät hihat ja hiukan avonainen selkä, ylleni. Jalkaan sopi täydellisesti korolliset nikkurit. Pikkujoululook oli valmis!

For rest of the look, I added some styling mousse for semi-wet hair before blow drying them. When the hair was completely dry, I sprayed heat defender all over the hair and curled them with a flat iron in small sections. When the curls were cooled off, I brushed them open head down, and sprayed generously texture spray to lock the appearance of the fluffy curls. For clothes, I picked up faux leather jeans, dark green glitter top and black high-heel boots. And that completed the final look!

Too Faced Born This Way – meikkivoiteen ensikokeilu / A first wear of a new foundation

Minulla on jokin meikkivoidehamstrauksen aikakausi menossa. Pakko kokeilla uusia meikkivoiteita, jotta löytäisin sen oikean. Tällä hetkellä kärkipaikkoja tässä meikkikategoriassa pitelevät Estée Lauderin Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup ja Lumenen Color Correcting Cream. Näiden lisäksi suosikkeihini kuuluvat lukuisia muitakin meikkivoiteita muun muassa Maybellineltä, Vichyltä, Lancômelta ja Essenceltä. I have a trending phenomenom going on – collecting foundations. Always looking for the miss Right. Currently, my top foundations are Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup and Lumene Color Correcting Cream, but I also prefer foundations from Maybelline, Vichy, Lancôme, and Essence. The problem usually is that one foundation is never enough for my skin’s needs. There are typically problems in the lack of coverage, lack of persistence, or totally wrong texture, which I try to reduce by mixing two or more different foundation together, and thus, gain a proper cocktail.

Meikkivoideperheeseeni muutti jokunen viikko sitten uusi yksilö: Too Facedin Born This Way, sävyssä Snow. Rakas ystäväni oli tuonut hänet ulkomaanmatkaltaan yllättävänä tuliaisena. En ollut ollenkaan pettynyt!

Ryhdyin innokkaana googlettemaan, mikäs hän on oikein voiteitaan. Muistan vain, kun internet kohahti viime vuonna, kun Too Faced lanseerasi hänet ensimmäisenä meikkivoiteenaan ja kuinka monet kehuivat meikkivoiteen kosteuttavaa tehoa ja peittävyyttä. Siis hetkonen. Tää meikkivoide siis kosteuttaa ja peittää samalla? Lopettakaa.

Meikkivoiteeseen on tosiaan lisätty kookosvettä, alppiruusua ja hyaluronihappoa nimenomaan ylläpitämään kosteutta ja elastisuutta iholla. Siis voisiko olla parempaa?

Pullo on itsessään todella kaunis, ja pumppu takaa hygieenisen annostelun. Pumppausmäärä on aika optimaalinen, sillä huomasin, että 2 pumppausta riittää mainiosti koko kasvojen peittoon. Meikkivoiteen voi levittää periaatteessa millä haluaa, itse suosin tiheää kabukimallista sivellintä ja meikkisientä. Meikkipohja pitää puuteroida, koska pinta jää hiukan tahmaiseksi, ja myöskin siksi, että voiteessa on mukana paljon kostetuttavia eikä niinkään mattana pitäviä ainesosia.

A couple of weeks ago, I had an amazing souvenir from my dear friend, Too Faced Born This Way foundation in a shade “Snow”. Yes, please! I have heard so much positive feedback of this foundation. People have been praising it for it’s full coverage and ability to moisturize skin. Hold on, you said that it can nourish my skin while being a full coverage? Shut the f up.

Indeed, this foundation is infused with coconut water, alpine rose and hyaluronic acid, which most definitely maintain the skin’s moisture balance. Could it be more perfect?

The bottle is gorgeous, and the pump is a hygienic way to use the product. I have noticed that 2 pumps are enough for covering my shotgun-skin. You can spread the foundation basically with whatever you like, I just prefer kabuki brush and sponge. The base needs to be powdered, because the foundation won’t dry out matte or even velvet.

Lähtökohtana meikkivoiteen ensikokeilun alussa oli aikas haasteellinen turpa: epäpuhtauksia, pintakuivuutta, ylimääräistä tekstuuria ja perus t-alueen öljyisyys. Eli todella haasteellinen työalusta meikkivoiteelle. Anteeksi tämän postauksen järkyttävästä kuvamateriaalista.

Kokomeikki — With Born This Way Foundation

Born This Way selviytyi todella mallikkaasti suorituksestaan. Primerina käytin koko kasvoilla Wet ‘n’ Wildin Coverall Primer Base de Teintiä ja t-alueella Benefit Cosmeticsin Porefessionalia. Peiteainetta lisäsin silmien alle ja epäpuhtauksien päälle. Puuteroin kasvot kevyesti värittömällä irtopuuterilla ja korostin kasvoja aurinkopuuterilla, poskipunalla ja korostuspuuterilla. Lopputuloksena oli kuulas ja varsin peittävä meikkipohja.

Työpäivän jälkeen korjasin meikkiä nenän kohdalta (8 tunnin jälkeen laitosta), koska meikkivoide ei kestänyt niistämistä, mikä on täysin ymmärrettävää. MUTTA. Tätä meikkipohjaa oli käsittämättömän helppo korjata! Yleensä meikki kakkuuntuu, kun sitä yrittää korjata, mutta eipäs tämä! Pystyin huolettomasti lisäämään meikkivoidetta nenään ja puuteroimaan päälle uudelleen ilman, että se olisi näyttänyt järkyttävältä. Olin todella vaikuttunut.

Meikki oli kasvoillani yhteensä 15 tuntia, mikä on todella haasteellinen aika mille tahansa meikkivoiteelle. Meikkipohjani joutui kestämään vieläpä pienet naamahikikarkelot. Lisäksi t-alueen öljyisyys puski läpi päivän aikana, minkä tiesin jo etukäteen olevan haaste meikkivoiteelle. Kaiken kaikkiaan, tämä meikkivoide on yksi parhaimmista meikkivoiteista, mitä olen kokeillut ja jää todellakin käyttööni! Tämä meikkivoide sopii mielestäni sekä arki- että juhlakäyttöön. Plussaa erittäin vaaleasta (=sopivasta) sävystä.

The starting point for this first foundation wear test was extreme: My skin was having big issues with the breakouts and dryness at the same time. So if Born This Way could handle this situation, it would handle anything.

I primed my face with Wet ‘n’ Wild Coverall Primer Base de Teint and Benefit Cosmetics Porefessional before applying the foundation. I used concealer for my under eyes and top of impurities, and added some loose translucent setting powder, bronzer, blush, and highlighter. The result was really dewy and smooth.

After 8-hour wearing, I needed to fix the base since the foundation was completely gone from my nose area due to the constant blowing. Not surprising. What was surprising that how easy it was to fix the base this time ! Usually when adding foundation or concealer and powder on top of “old” makeup, it always becomes cakey. But not with this foundation! I was amazed how fresh and dewy my face looked again, after 8 hours!

The foundation was on my skin for total 15 hours, which is a pretty long time for any foundation. Too Faced Born This Way needed to handle some sweat and my t-zone oiliness during the day, which I already knew was going to be an issue. As a conclusion, this foundation is one of the best foundations I’ve ever tried! It works perfectly for everyday use and special occasions. What was really satisfying that the shade “snow” was light enough for my pale skin tone.

Meikki – Treffit / The Makeup – Date night

Treffit tiedossa, etkä tiedä miten saisit naaman Tinder-profiilikuvakuntoon? Ei huolta. Tässä meikkiesimerkissä yhdistyvät luonnollinen silmämeikki tummanpunaisilla huulilla. I made this look on one night for my own upcoming date, and added some carefree curls, black knitted dress, and boots. On the point!

Silmämeikin pääosassa on Morphe x Jaclyn Hill -luomiväripaletti. Käytin paletin luonnollisen ruskean, beigen ja shamppanjan värisiä nappeja. Yläripsirajan rajasin paletin mustanruskealla sävyllä, eikä tarvetta nestemäiselle rajaukselle ollut. Luonnolliset irtoripset suurensivat silmiä ja toivat silmiin tiettyä pilkettä.

Pohjustin silmäluomet UD silmänpohjustustuotteella, jonka jälkeen puuteroin koko luomialueen irtopuuterilla ja sudin päälle NYX Professional Makeup Lingerie Lid paletin vaaleinta sävyä.
Lisäsin luomivakoon suurella häivytyssiveltimellä Jaclyn Hill-paletin sävyjä M.F.E.O. ja Buns.
Silmän ulkonurkkaan lisäsin pienemmällä siveltimellä Chipiä ja Mochaa, ja häivytin värit luomivakoon asti puhtaalla häivytyssiveltimellä.
Silmänrajauksen tein paletin sävyllä Soda Pop, ja käytin apuna viistopäistä, kapeaa sivellintä. Blurrasin rajausta hieman pienemmällä häivytyssiveltimellä ennen kuin lisäsin Little Ladya liikkuvan luomen keskiosaan, ja Faintia sisänurkkaan.
Tässä kohtaa lisäsin ripsivärin.
Loppusilauksena laitin kohtuusimppelit irtoripset ja korostin kulmaluuta paletin Beam-sävyllä.
Alaluomen meikkasin mukaellen samoja beigen ja ruskean sävyjä, mitä yläluomella, käyttämällä Morphen M151 sivellintä.

In this eye makeup look, the biggest role went to the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette, from which I used colors from the brown, beige, and champagne categories. I lined the upper lash line using the brown black color from the palette, and I realized that there is no need for liquid liner. Fake lashes gave some extra to the look by enlarging the eyes and adding that little sparkle.

I started the eye makeup by priming the lids with UD primer potion, and adding some loose setting powder and the lightest shade from the NYX Professional Makeup Lingerie Lid Palette on top of the whole lid area.
I added shades M.F.E.O. and Buns from the Morphe x Jaclyn Hill palette to the crease with big blending brush.
To the outer edge of the lid, I added Chip and Mocha with a smaller fluffy brush, and blended the colors all the way to the crease with a clean blending brush.
I lined the upper lash line with Soda pop with a help of angled eyeliner brush, and blurred the line with a small fluffy brush before adding Little Lady to the middle of the lid, and Faint to inner corner.
I added some mascara.
As a final touch, I glued some simple false lashes, and highlighted the brow bone with Beam.
I did the lower lid makeup with the same colors as with the upper lid using Morphe M151 small chisel fluff brush.

I lined my lips with nude-colored lip liner and filled the lips with juicy dark red lipstick.

Ripsivärivertailu / Mascara Comparison: L’Oréal Paradise Extatic v. Too Faced Better than Sex

Internet on kohissut aiheesta jo tovin. Ostin viime kesäkuussa Tukholman Sephorasta ostohuuruissani Too Facedin Better than Sex ripsivärin, koska suurin osa meikkiguruista oli huutanut, ja huutavat edelleen, pikkarit märkinä tämän ripsivärin ylivertaisuudesta. Oli siis saatava se itselleni. Omat tönkköripseni ovat kaivanneet syleilyynsä sitä maailman parasta mascaraa, ja joka kerta olen epäonnistunut tehtävässä. I had one job.

The internet has been making a fuss about it for a while. I bought Too Faced Better than Sex mascara last June from Sephora Stockholm while handling my major shopping insanity, because most of the makeup gurus have been shouting about the excellence of this mascara. So obviously I need to have it too. My not-so-impressive lashes have been craving for the perfect mascara, yet I have not been able to deliver any. I had like one job.

Latasin siis aika universaaliset odotukset tuohon painavaan pinkkihylsyyn. Ripsivärin korkkasin vasta elokuussa, koska piti vähän kuivatella käytössä olevia hylsyjä nopeammin pois hyllystä pyörimästä. Tekopyhyys mallikkaasti suoritettu.

L’Oréal myös lanseerasi kesällä pinkkiin hylsyyn verhotun ripsivärin. Euroopassa hänen nimensä on Paradise Extatic. Internet kohahti. So I set huge expectations on this heavy pink-colored case. I opened the mascara not until August, because I needed to dry already opened cases a bit faster. Hypocrisy well delivered.

L’Oréal also launched a pink-colored mascara last summer. In Europe, her name is Paradise Extatic. The internet got mad. All the way from the cardboard packaging this newbie reminded remarkably of Too Faced’s one. And then began an overwhelming review parade. By date, there is no true winner in this battle of the mascaras. But why should it be even?

Mascarat

Ostettuani Paradisen, päätin välittömästi osallistua tähän hömppärinkiin. Jos Paradise osoittautuukin paremmaksi, säästyisin vaivalloiselta päivä-Tukholmassa-risteilyltä ja säästäisin yli puolet pätäkkää. Better than Sex kun maksaa sen abouttirallat 30 euroa, kun Paradisen korkkasin Stockmannilta alle 14 eurolla. Paradise johtaa siis jo 1-0.

Suoritin siis kahden aamun empiirisen kokeen: Päivänä 1 kokeilin L’Orealin ripsiväriä ja päivänä 2 Too Facedin. Kummassakin tapauksessa levitin ripsivärin puhtaisiin, taivutettuihin ripsiin. Ja ei, en tiedä oliko ripsivärikerrosten lukumäärä sama molemmissa, koska sillä ei ole mitään merkitystä. Ripsiväriä lisätään, kunnes ollaan tyytyväisiä lopputulokseen. Piste.

Nyt tuloksiin:

After buying Paradise, I decided to join in this madness. If Paradise turns out to be the winner, then I wouldn’t need to travel all the way to Sweden to get this expensive so-called Better than Sex. After all, it costs 30 €, when Paradise is under 14 € at Stockmann. It’s 1-0 for Paradise already.

So I performed a 2-day experiment: On day 1, I wore the L’Oréal mascara and on day 2, the Too Faced mascara. In both cases, I spread the mascara on clean, curled lashes. And no, I didn’t check whether the amount of the mascara layers were equal, since it doesn’t matter at all. You add mascara as long as you’re satisfied. The layers play no role in this matter.

YHTEENVETONA: Tämän kaksintaistelun voitti L’Oréal, vaikkakin Too Faced ei jättänyt kokonaan kylmäksi. Yllä olevassa kuvassa on ehkä vaikea nähdä eroa, mutta työstäessä ripsiä eron huomasi heti: Paradise oli helppo levittää, kun taas Better than Sex vaati aikaa ja kunnon puhdistukset sotkun hävittämiseksi. Ehkä tönköt suomalaiset ripseni eivät vain voi tyytyä noin huonoon seks… ripsiväriin. Ripsiväriin, niin.

Mutta niinkuin kaikessa kosmetiikassa (tai asiassa), mikä ei sovi toiselle, on täydellinen toiselle. Onneksi olemme kaikki erilaisia, sillä kosmetiikkaa löytyy jokaisen tarpeseen ja makuun yllin kyllin. Jos koet, että Too Faced on parempi kuin mikään muu ripsiväri, niin ihana kuulla!

CONCLUSION: The winner of this battle was L’Oréal, although Too Faced fight well in certain categories. The picture above may not be showing the difference between these two mascaras well, but it was definitely evident while working the mascaras: Paradise was easy to apply, while Better than Sex demanded more work and a proper cleaning of the mess it caused. Maybe my small and straight lashes just can’t settle for bad sex… I mean mascara. Yeah, mascara.

As in every cosmetic product (or matter), there is always something that someone hates, but someone loves. Luckily, we are all different, and the enormous variability in the beauty industry offers amazing solutions for individual demands and desires. If you consider that Too Faced is the best mascara above all, I’m genuinely happy for you!
